In the body, there are twelve cranial nerves that control basic motor function and senses. The eighth craniel nerve is located between your inner ear and your brain, and acoustic neuroma is a non-cancerous tumor located on or near the nerve that impedes it’s function. The primary function of the eighth nerve is hearing and balance, and the pressure from a tumor could affect hearing, balance, and possibly cause a sense of ringing in one’s ears.
